Aloha Vietnam is a beautifully written story about Anh Nuyen, whose family moved to Hawaii from Vietnam to give her family a better life. While her parents sacrificed everything to give Anh the best opportunities possible, they never expected mental health issues to be an issue. Anh’s parents struggle with understanding new medical terms like bipolar disorder and manic episode. They’re desperate to have their daughter back to normal, but in a new country with new ideas on how to handle mental health, they find themselves overwhelmed and confused about the right way to help her. This book is heavy but beautifully written but moves quickly.
