The Island King takes place in Nassau, Bahamas 1791.  This is the kind of historical fiction that fascinates me.  I’ve been to the Queen’s Staircase which is a walkway of 65 steps in Nassau, the capital city of The Bahamas. It was carved out of solid limestone by 600 slaves between 1793 and 1794 to create a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau.

I’ve read a lot about Haiti’s history, but not much about the Bahamas and Gina Giordano is a brilliant author who clearly has done her research.  This is set just a couple years before the Bahamas gained independence from England in 1793.  This is the sequel to Strange Eden and I enjoyed this one even more!

There’s a second chance romance that had so much depth and emotion, I just was pulling for them the whole time.  This is a beautifully written book and I’m already looking forward to the next one! -Casey
