I would wish for the ability to travel anywhere!
I love the title The Monstrous Misses Mai by Van Hoang, but I had no idea what this book was about before starting. I really liked the main character Cordi, she has a good heart and is really just trying to find a decent place to live after a falling out with her parents.
She finds a place to rent with 3 other girls, they all have the same middle name Mai, they are delighted they have found each other and became fast friends. But they all have something in common, they are struggling to make it in life and to even pay rent. They each have something they truly want, Cordi, a Vietnamese American is faced with racism and struggles to find even a basic job.
When the opportunity comes up, they all decide how important their wishes really are, and what they’re willing to give up for them. This book definitely took a dark turn that wasn’t expecting, but I couldn’t put it down once I started!
