and when they are written well they always seem to draw me in and I can envision myself right there in the story. I love when this happens and it’s exactly what happened with The British Booksellers by Kristy Cambron!
An innocent but secret childhood friendship between Charlotte and Amos, two kids from wildly different classes in the early 1900’s, spans decades as they come in and out of each other’s lives. Charlotte is destined for life as a “Lady”, her station in life carved out since birth. Amos is the son of a farmer with big dreams but a realistic outlook on life.
Their love of books and classic authors bond them in childhood and they often dreamed of opening a bookstore together. However, life and The Great War got in the way.
When the story begins they haven’t talked to each other in decades and in fact, both run rivalry bookstores across from each other. As WW2 looms closer and closer they must put aside their differences and come together to help their country and community survive…and maybe rekindle long lost feelings.
