I made a trip to Poland to visit Auschwitz about 20 years ago. I can’t begin to express how heavily that trip still weighs on my heart.
I honestly think this is one of the reasons historical fiction is one my favorite genres.
The German House by Anette Hess is an international best seller and I can easily see why. I was completely absorbed in this story. Eva Bruhns find herself as a Polish translator during the Frankfurt Auschwitz Trials of 1963. She is appalled and disturbed by the stories she is hearing about a camp that was located in Poland during WW2. Something much more horrifying is that her family may be tied to this exact camp, as she begins to learn the truth, her world is turned upside down.
