I read a lot of historical fiction but rarely read American historical fiction.
Masque of Honor by Sharon Virts was a compelling book. I didn’t realize this was based on the true historical events of the 1819 Mason-McCarty duel. When Jack McCarty and Amistead Mason allow their honor and pride to mean more than anything else, the result is explosive.
This book gave me Gone With the Wind vibes but the writing was easy to read and I genuinely enjoyed every minute.
