It’s interesting when we have so many different backgrounds but can struggle with similar things trying to navigate through life.
Hyeseung Song, a daughter of Korean immigrants, writes her own coming of age story. She struggled growing up in a mostly white and rich area of Texas but also had many close friends. I was born in Korea and lost my language and my accent quickly, but I related to the author when she beautifully recounted her emotional teen years.
Docile: Memoirs of a Not-So-Perfect Asian Girl is being compared to Crying in H-Mart and I can see why, there are some similarities and if you enjoyed one, you would likely enjoy the other. But they truly are very different stories and written in different styles.
Once I started Docile, I was so intrigued I couldn’t put it down.
Thank you so much @simonandschuster
