I think it probably depends on what the circumstances are But I adored the second chance trope in The Almost Lovebirds by Lucy Day! When Fiona has to go home to take care of her Aunt D, who is like a second mom to her, she is more than happy to help, but dreads going back to Jasmine Falls. She was humiliated years ago by her ex, Alex Fox, and was determined to do everything she could to avoid him. Which of course was impossible, he had recently moved in next door to Aunt D!
When Alex tries to rope her into helping him with a huge art project he’s working on, she finds herself torn between the money she could make and the hurt feelings she’s holding onto. This is a sweet small-town romance, I adored all the characters, this is the kind of book that just leaves me feeling happy.
