Have you been to NYC?

I love stories set in New York so I was excited to read Sonder: Janie’s Story by Maureen Morrissey.

This book follows Janie through her life starting as a young child, her innocence is precious and I wanted to protect her immediately. Her parents are extremely self focused and tend to neglect her and her brother Greg. Janie’s mom is more concerned about what the neighbors think than what is actually happening in her kids’ lives. As Janie grows up she has plans to move out and move on from her life in Queens, but things quickly go downhill as she makes one bad choice after another. My heart went out to her and I was rooting for her and hoping she could overcome these obstacles in her life!
