In Lady Sunshine by Amy Mason Doan, I love how she beautifully puts these two timelines together. In 1979 when Jackie visits her uncle and meets her elusive cousin Willa, she plans to keep to herself and only observe this wild place in the woods. Her uncle Graham is a musician and lives in Northern California, he hosts large gatherings where people wander in and out, and everyone is welcome. Jackie starts to feel like she belongs with this group of unique people, but soon finds out, things are as magical as they seem. The story unfolds as the timeline jumps to the late 90s and back, it’s a mystery and for most of the book you don’t know what the mystery is that you’re even trying to solve. There are secrets that will keep you reading until you must find out what happened all those years ago.
