Cilka’s Journey is the amazing sequel to The Tattooist of Auschwitz. This time we follow the life of Cilka after she is liberated from the concentration camp. I had no idea that after liberation, many people were then forced to serve harsh sentences of hard labor elsewhere. This is a heartbreaking and eye opening story of what some of those survivors were forced into after the Holocaust. Definitely a must-read if you loved The Tattooist of Auschwitz. *This book has seen some recent controversy and the authenticity of it has been under fire. Regardless, this is a very good story. I went into it knowing it was very loosely based on a true story. Even if it is a complete character fabrication, I feel like the events in the story are based on things that really did happen to real people. Even if these particular events and details didn’t actually happen to the real-life Cilka.*
