Liu Zhaohu knows her by her real name Ah Yan, which means “swallow”. They grew up in the same village and have known each other their whole lives. Pastor Billy calls her Stella, which means “star”. He becomes her savior when she desperately needs saving. Ian Ferguson is an American soldier and calls her Wende, which means “wind”. He becomes enamored with her while stationed in China during the war.
Each man is connected to her in deeply important ways and are also connected to each other in their real lives and in their spiritual afterlives. One day towards the end of the war, all three men make a pact to meet on the same day each year in the afterlife. The story weaves in and out of each character’s perspectives and we get a unique glimpse into each of their lives and how they intertwine with each other.
Thank you so much @tlcbooktours
